During the exam, our dentist will ask about your medical history and take X-rays of your mouth. Our dentist will tell you if you need a full restoration, or other procedures such as veneers, crowns, inlays, onlays, bridges, or dental implants.
Our dentist will also check your gums for deep pockets, lack of gum tissue, swelling, bleeding, periodontal disease and bone density problems. If our dentist finds issues with your gums, you may need root planing and/or scaling to treat periodontal disease. Serious cases may need soft tissue or bone grafts to improve the jaw bone and gums.
Our dentist will look to see if you have a stable bite. This may not sound like a big deal, but it is important. If you have a stable bite, you should be able to close your mouth and chew without pain or causing wear to your teeth. Sometimes folks need orthodontics (braces) or other treatments to correct bite problems.
Our dentist will also note the color, shape, size and proportion of your teeth, and how they fit with your gums, lips, mouth, and face. A full mouth reconstruction should always fit your face.
Finally, our dentist will come up with a comprehensive treatment plan to correct all of your dental problems and/or your full mouth reconstruction. If you do not understand any of these procedures, then be sure to ask our dentist questions. We believe in total transparency. We will never recommend a procedure that you do not need.
